The devs want to thank you for celebrating 10 years of fangs, fun and playing Vampires: The Darkside! We’re here to ring in the new year with a look at 2020.
If 2019 taught us anything it’s that you love our events! Over the last few years we’ve spent a majority of our time being hands-on, crafting your monthly events on-the-fly. While it's been successful on every front, an unintended side effect is that the lion's share of our time has been devoted strictly to this.
Thanks to your fantastic feedback we've shifted our focus to hone in on and improve all of them for 2020. We feel really good about this year’s event calendar and we think you’ll be very excited about the improvements.
In undertaking 2020 event improvements, one of our other important goals is to consolidate our time. So we’ve created a structure that will help us do that while giving us more time to meet our yearly goals. The new structure will propagate small changes in what you’re used to with event awareness.
Rather than getting a random new Rules & Lore notification toward the middle of the month, we’re working on an Event Portal which will contain every event we hold, with rules, mods, and awards intact—all available to you at any time. These will be standard, so you’ll know what to expect from your event. You can still depend on in-game banners, FB Event Rooms and App Page announcements to know which event is coming your way.
Meanwhile your homepage Smart Button for News will require change to a static Event Portal button so you always have direct access to the Portal. The Portal will offer players new and old a quick overview of each event type, with an entry button to access each event’s rules, mods and awards. We’re working on this as you read, so look forward to announcements in the near future!
Most important for you: going forward all of your events will be evenly weighted in awards and categories, with improvements across the board in category quantity, power stats and individual award amounts!
In order for us to keep delivering the best of the best, the BMS for each event isn’t able to be delivered to you in advance. As such we won’t be able to offer an advanced preview of the BMS through event pages in the new portal. However we’ll be bringing a gallery to the homepage showcasing the month’s offerings. The homepage gallery will take you directly to the market tab in the Council so you can snag your goods and coins conveniently... and of course the gallery will remain present until a new BMS is available!
Along with this you can also expect occasional limited time BMS offerings—especially during holiday XP events. Keep your eyes peeled on the new gallery, though. You never know when a super special, unannounced BMS may crop up!
Clan Requirement Changes
Beginning the 15th of January clan requirements will be increased to 2000 (+1, you). You’ll begin the game now with 500 free NPC clan, and 20 NPC clan per level until level 75. By level 75 the 2000 max will be attained. Established players can again breathe a sigh of relief as we’ll be backdating your max clan with NPC clan to make up the difference. Slave Minders will be upped to support and maintain your vamp’s financial needs.
Along with event balancing, to help facilitate this change drop rates in the game will be increased across the board including daily blood collectable drops, daily runes, relics and event drops! Also you'll notice the award structure for events has been significantly improved. Everyone will receive increased quantities of everything for the whole year.
Clan raises are important to VDS in terms of overall game balance. It’s a feature we wish we could remove but simply can’t because it is too innately tied to the game’s structure. As such these raises help us and you by offering more frequent, higher quality daily and event gameplay drop rates you salivate for. You should probably also know we have we have no plans to raise clan numbers over 2000! Rejoice!
Daily gameplay is as important to us as events and we’re working hard to make sure your everyday battles remain exciting. Buffs from relics have always been one of VDS most fun daily features. Now you can get the more frequently! Relics that previously lasted an hour will change in time and frequency down to 30 mins, and even more will be available in the game.
All of your dreams are coming true! Expect the Hitlist to be consolidated to one, single Hitlist going forward. This will take away one ability from the The Eye of Providence relic, but it will still work to mitigate the Talon of Andilaveris relic.
Thanks to a 3rd party company shutdown, our offer wall (Earn Favors) and Deal Spot are no longer available. We are currently considering optional offers. We’ll have more on this as it develops. In the meantime you may see the empty Deal Spot area in the Council removed or changed to another item.
Also being deprecated is Power Sanctums. Sanctums have been a part of VDS since day one and with around one hundred available we’re proud to still offer them as a customization option. However without the ability to purchase more than one, and with the success of the BMS, we feel that including a power along with a sanctum isn’t offering you the best service. As such we’ll continue to offer normal sanctums at various times in various themes.
Add & Remove Clan
Via player suggestion, we’ll be adding functionality to request and remove clan from profile pages.
Due to hands-on event management, we fell through in some of our plans for 2019 and prowling was one of the casualties. Although we weren't able to release it in the projected time frame, we want you to know it's still coming! However we’ve reviewed the necessary items required to make this happen and there’s a few amendments to be made to our plans.
First, between two games on multiple platforms our artist just doesn’t have the time to complete the rest of prowling’s art with immediacy. So we’ll be releasing the remaining locations without full artwork. Rather we'll be using some form of placeholder image—with exception to certain instances in exploration multiples where your main hub is necessary to know visually. Indeed you will need to read the stories in order to complete them with any efficacy.
On the other end of the spectrum we want to improve the quality of powers coming from prowling, so we’ll be undertaking a major revision of stats in all prowling-related powers. This will include related areas such as fusions and more. Generally, this is going to be buffs to numbers and will affect all we change whether you’ve collected them already or not.
Now that we’ve nailed the event structures you like, we’re working a new system to add rewards via daily goals. If you put in the work, you attain the rewards! Our structure for this is still in the planning phase, so we’ll have more on this later in the year.
Cheers to a fanging new year!
Happy 2020 to the community, we’ll be back with more when we have it.
